Community service of any kind will help in getting in, and freshman scholarships are usually awarded based on high school GPA and SAT scores.
ACT: 30 SAT: 2100 Male
I was involved in just about every extracurricular knownMar 05 2008Public Health
I was involved in just about every extracurricular known to man. I was perhaps overqualified for BU and I wish I had applied to some schools a little "higher up" because I might have gotten into something better than BU. I was also number 2 in my class.
SAT: 1450 Female
I have always been the super smart unmotivated typeMar 02 2008Political Science
I have always been the super smart unmotivated type. So, I did nothing in high school and got into a state college. While there, I decided after an unimpressive first year that I wanted to go to a better college, so I put in a bit of effort and got my GPA up to a 3.45. I wrote a kick ass essay about how BU is a bunch of hypocrites for not stripping Martin Luther King of his Ph.D. for plagiarism, yet being a bunch of plagiarism Nazi's on their website. Surprisingly, they let me in. It was my top choice, making my essay choice all the more risky. My backup was Northeastern, and they took me as well.

I did a lot of community service and participated in many activities. I think my essay, as well as my grades, played a big factor in my getting accepted to BU.
